Kicking off the post-season series of match compilations highlighting the outstanding and influential performances throughout the memorable 12/13 scudetto winning campaign; Vidal vs Fiorentina – in what proved to be a decisive and match winning display from the Chilean box-to-box midfielder. Vidal was deployed in what has become his usual role in his position right of centre, as part of the MVP midfield trident alongside Andrea Pirlo and Claudio Marchisio. He performed tirelessly throughout making an outstanding 8 tackles, more than any other player on the pitch. This statistic is one which has become the norm for Vidal, with his ability to press the defender into making mistakes, either through incessant pressure, or intense tackling, up there with the very best and arguably the best in this role. More than just a ball-winning midfielder though, Vidal contributes on the offensive side of things just as much as he does helping out his teammates when the opposition regains possession. The 12/13 season was a breakthrough in this regard, as Vidal made it into double figures for both goals and assists in all competitions. On display here was the Chilean’s ability to pick the defence’s lock, as he turned creative provider with a superb assist, laying the ball on a silver platter for Alessandro Matri to fire in the decisive second goal. The same level of excellence is expected from Vidal in the forthcoming campaigns.
