Parma 0-0 Juventus: Bianconeri Replace Snow With Anger & Frustration

Two denied penalties (three if you count Giovinco’s), our forwards yet again blanked by an opposing defensive wall, more lost points against a mid-table team… these are just three in a long list of elements that made Parma vs. Juventus as disheartening to comment as it was frustrating to watch. At the end of the day, keeping yet another clean sheet seems like a thing stuck in the background of a progressively uglier picture, one for which Antonio Conte & Juve already lament a loss of 20 points total (yes people, 10 is the total of draws accumulated by the Bianconeri this season). With the added fact this was a mid-week game, with most of the JuventiKnows crew either tied with school, work, or family-related issues, we have decided to declare a SILENZIO STAMPA. At this time, there are more important things we need to be doing than bitch & moan about Juve and frankly, there is more rage than healthy well-thought debate in our minds anyway. We will simply leave you with a Play-by-Play of the “match” and Conte & Pirlo’s post-match declarations. Like our coach, feel free to vent all your anger and frustration in the comments section.

MATCH ANALYSIS

SILENZIO STAMPA

LE PAGELLE

SILENZIO STAMPA

PLAY-BY-PLAY

1st Half:
Buffon
Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini
Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Estigarribia
Matri, Vucinic

As predicted, it’s a 3-5-2 again for Juventus but it’ll be Estigarribia instead of De Ceglie on the left wing.
Bench action: Storari, De Ceglie, Cáceres, Giaccherini, Quagliarella, Del Piero, Borriello.
1′ Referee Paolo Silvio Mazzoleni blows the whistle, and we’re off!
4′ CHIELLINI!!! Off a right-wing Pirlo FK, Giorgio hits the base of the post!!
8′ Huge battle in central midfield: lots of pressure (especially from Juve), and a lot of missed passes (principally by Parma).
10′ Vucinic storms away on the left after a Biabiany mistake. He has only Ferrario to beat, half-succeeds at it, but takes too long to fire a shot in. Ferrario gets a foot in, ball is smothered and danger cleared.
12′ Giovinco in a dribbling display skips past Vidal, then Pirlo, but is stopped by the returning Chilean.
15′ Giovinco is through on goal but called for offside. Good decision by the assistant referee.
17′ Physical match at the Tardini. Lots of broken plays and fouls called by the referee.
20′ Vidal cross from the right, Matri gets his head in. Too central to trouble Pavarini.
21′ Yellow card Zaccardo for a foul on Vidal, just on the edge of the Parma box. Dangerous Pirlo territory…
22′ PIRLO!! Straight from the free-kick, Andrea is inches away from the top-right corner!!
25′ VUCINIC!! Receives a pass 25 yards out, skips past Lucarelli with a deft touch and fires off a blast narrowly over! He had space!
28′ Speculative Lichtsteiner volley after a deflected Pirlo cross. Far over & wide.
30′ Vucinic tries his luck from mid-range. It’s a low shot that is no trouble for Pavarini.
33′ Good work by Chiellini to win the ball back, but then wastes it with a bad pass forward to… no one.
35′ Juve CK. Low pass to Vucinic at the first post, who fires it in. Ball stays in the feet of a Parma defender, eventually landing to Chiellini who can’t arm his shot properly. Ball is cleared.
37′ Marchisio cross from the left, cleared by Valiani. CK Juve. Nothing comes out of it.
40′ Parma CK. Ball cleared by Matri, it lands to Mariga who goes for the shot, but great block by Vidal to deny him!
41′ Vucinic has picked up a knock. He’s touching his ankle…
42′ Magic spray for Mirko, who steps back onto the field, grinding his teeth a bit.
45′ Juve just really lacking lucidity in the final third. Another ball wasted after a deflected cross.
45′ Two minutes of injury time.
47′ MATRI!! Ale32 exchanges with Mirko on the edge of the box and gets in behind the Parma defense into the box. His last touch is too heavy though, and Pavarini goes down to clutch the ball to his chest!

2ndHalf:
Buffon
Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini
Lichtsteiner(87′Cáceres), Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Estigarribia(58′Giaccherini)
Matri(68′Quagliarella), Vucinic

46′ No changes at the half.
49′ Dangerous Giovinco/Morrone overlap on the left. Both storm away, the latter feeds it for Seba who fires off at Buffon. Gigi saves into corner.
53′ Substitution Parma: Musacci comes on for Valiani.
54′ Estigarribia! Chiellini on the edge of the box serves the Paraguayan on the left, who goes for a hard shot over! Wasted ball!
56′ Estigarribia redeems himself. He skips past a player on the left and delivers a great ball for Matri inside the box. Ale’s first shot is blocked by a defender, and before he realizes the ball’s still within his reach, another defender clears it away.
58′ Substitution Juve: Giaccherini comes on for Estigarribia.
59′ Great cover by Bonucci to break down a potentially dangerous Parma counter.
59′ Marchisio cross from the left, Matri hooks it inside the area but can’t get it under control!
62′ Mariga inside the Juve box, well closed down by the defense, can only try a difficult cross from the byline that goes straight into goal kick.
64′ Pirlo launches Giaccherini forward into the box. Biabiany gets the ball clear and clips Giac24 at the same time!!! Penalty denied to Juve.
65′ Giovinco very dangerous! Long ball for him inside the area on the left, skips past Buffon and fires it hard from the goal line. Barzagli touches it into corner.
68′ Substitution Juve: Quagliarella comes on for Matri. Not Ale32′s best game today.
68′ Substitution Parma: Jonathan comes on for Biabiany.
71′ SHIVERS!!! 8O Giovinco magic inside the box to get past Barzagli, Andrea leans on the Parma player who falls down. Referee waves play on!!!
72′ Mazzoleni’s penalty-denying is consistent at both ends at least.
73′ Vucinic! Fires off from the edge of the box! Parried by Pavarini. Quagliarella tries to get on the rebound but arrives too late.
76′ Vucinic!! AAAAAAAAAARGH!!! Another #_@)@@)! wasted ball by Juve, with Quagliarella touching it one-time for Mirko, into space, who fires off terribly wide from the edge of the box.
77′ Substitution Parma: Santacroce on for A.Lucarelli.
78′ Yellow card Bonucci for a foul on Giovinco on the left wing. Severe.
79′ Giovinco fires it straight in! Buffon punches away!
80′ Good God. Giaccherini freed up by Pirlo inside the box, with no one to cross to. Backtracks and sees his ball swiped away by Jonathan. Unbelievable…
81′ PIRLO!! Low shot from mid-range angle right at the bottom-left corner. Pavarini gets a fingertip! Corner!
82′ MARCHISIO!! Similar, symmetrical shot from the left side. This time it’s deflected by a defender’s foot!
83′ Off the corner, Chiellini gets his header in but can’t direct it towards goal!
84′ GIACCHERINI!!! 8O Modesto is lagging back and leaves Giaccherini completely onside, off of Pirlo’s pass!! Free on goal, Giac fires it straight at Pavarini!! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
86′ Juve off on the counter again, Lichsteiner on the right is free but his cross cannot find Vucinic!
87′ Substitution Juve: Cáceres comes on for an exhausted Lichtsteiner. Fingers crossed for some “Pelado” magic…
90′ FOUR MINUTES OF ADDED TIME.
91′ Yellow card Vidal for a foul on Morrone. Maybe he had enough of the incessant backheels the Juve players were trying.
93′ …. Speechless. Another penalty denied to Juve, after Pirlo (exploiting a great headed redirect) is freed in front on goal and kneed from behind by Santacroce. Pirlo had the positional advantage and embellished the fall, but the foul is 100% there.
94′ Yellow card Quagliarella for dissent, as the referee calls full-time after that BS call.
Juventus players are livid, surrounding Mazzoleni. Parma’s men getting involved too. Very tense end to the match, and rightfully so. At least 3 penalties denied by the referee today.

WHAT THEY SAID AFTER THE GAME

Antonio CONTE

We dominated the game for long periods it really sucks not winning in these situations. Pavarini the goalkeeper was good, and there were a few mistakes we made ourselves. But once again, there are a few replays I’d like to see.

There was absolutely nothing in Parma’s appeal: it’s either a penalty or a yellow card for diving, but the referee gave neither. Giovinco “fainted”. As for us, the footage on Giaccherini and Pirlo speaks for itself. I think at this stage referees are afraid of giving a penalty to Juventus. We’ve only received one spot-kick in 22 games this season. I am not just talking about today’s incidents, but it is a general view of the whole campaign that people are afraid of giving a penalty in favour of Juventus. That fear comes from all sorts of areas.

We carry on, but it is annoying. We’ve had fewer penalties than anyone all season and play 75% of our games in the opponents’ area. This situation is really getting on my nerves and I cannot accept that Juventus are unfairly treated. I expect every referee to be even, fair and courageous, because you need balls to award a penalty at the 90th minute. It isn’t just the two penalties: Morrone makes a nasty foul on Vidal’s knee that could have broken his leg. No red card. I don’t want any “gifts”, but at the moment the impression is they won’t give us a penalty even if we get killed. We train like animals to play an extraordinary season and just demand fair treatment on a par with everyone else.

Home or away, nothing changes: between Siena and Parma we lost 4 points and if we had them, the press would be talking about Juve “escaping away” from Milan. (…) In the changing room I get angry at my players for not winning the game, but now telling these guys they must work hard without thinking about the refereeing, well that’s problematic. I understand a rookie ref may make mistakes, but a good referee like Mazzoleni, well that worries me. [Referee designator] Braschi said Juve will be treated like everyone else. Then do so! Whenever they call something in our favour referees do the sign of the cross, I really cannot explain this thing and I don’t like it, I don’t like it at all.

Andrea PIRLO

The penalty was obvious. I protected the ball and felt a knee on my back. I thought it was a clear penalty, but let’s move on.

It’s true, we had only one spot-kick in 22 matches in spite of other dubious episodes. We don’t want any gifts but when there is a penalty, even if it’s in the 90th minute, it must be called. We don’t feel like victims, but these are episodes that can help unwind a tight match.

    Lets see how Conte reacts…

Complete and utter disgrace from the ref! If this was Milan they would have had both penalties given. This morning they got a 4th goal from a penalty which was the FIRST foul on anyone inside the box, and the ref did not even think about it, as soon as he saw ibra fall, ref: “PENALTY! HOW COULD YOU TOUCH IBRA IN A MILAN GAME AT HOME? OMG I MUST GIVE A PENALTY TO THEM OR ELSE I WILL LOSE MY JOB.”

DISGRACE! this is getting out of hand and football is losing its fucking meaning with all the corruption at hand.

  • http://twitter.com/l_cetta Luca Cetta

Utter frustration. This unbeaten run is starting to look more like Perugia 1978/79 rather than Milan 1991/92.

  • Vittorio

Fuori Vucinic, Matri e Estigarribia, dentro ADP, Quagliarella e Giaccherini. Subito!

  • http://twitter.com/MAS1984H mo7med

trying not to curse, but this Big BS, because at the end of the season these point will kill us!!!!

    • Anonymous

      If not already.

  • Joshua

Good call! *Laced with sarcasm* Definitely not a penalty *Laced with even more sarcasm* Wonderful. Now we’ve broken the Serie A record of penalty decisions gone against us. Brilliant refereeing. Farsopoli is back!!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

Also can someone please teach Vucinic to hit the ball with just just JUST a bit more power, most of his shots are sooo lazy and not even placed that well! its like he is just warming up the hands of keepers!

    • Afairall

Soooooooooo true, I knew it couldn’t be just me seeing him pussyfoot the ball at the goalie every damn shot! I don’t understand it!

  • Anonymous

We did not deserve a penalty, milan gets penalties because they have strikers who can bring the ball into the box, attempt to beat their men and while doing so they get tripped up and get the calls.  Matri is incapable of beating a player one on one , and vooch shoots from outside the 18, quags=matri and borriello is a slut.  We need Gio back.  I love Conte and think he has done an excellent job but I think this game required the 433 formation.  When Matri or Vooch got the ball they were facing at least 4 defenders.  An extra body up top would have helped(ADP or that oranje guy).  Teams are starting to figure us out and keep their defense very deep to avoid the quick counter. Was kinda frustrated about this game but all i need to do is look back at the last few seasons.  Nice post guys.  Thanks.

    • Anthony

I think Matri would have been left more isolated in the 4-3-3 since Vucinic and a winger like Giaccherini both would be playing fairly wide. Matri would be swallowed up facing a back three on his own unless Vucinic and Giaccherini did a very good job of helping stretch the back three. But Parma’s wingbacks would have made that difficult for them.

Playing the 3-5-2 gives Matri a little more support by having Vucinic play much closer to him. That does result in less play on the wings though.

  • Shifaa Mrad

last night i started to h ave doubts about Juve’s future. THIS Juve is no Champions League compatible! Conte should have more guts and be more “wise”… Last night’s match needed Alex.. not Caceres in the last 4 minutes! seriously what was he thinking!!!

    • http://www.juventiknows.com Marco P.

Lichtsteiner was exhausted. That’s why he came off.

Bur yeah. Bit of a conservative sub there.

  • Shifaa Mrad

PLUS.. we should get Giovinco back. NO Matter what!

    • guest

      I completely agree with you..

Just found out that SILENZIO STAMPA means we-are-too-pissed-with-the-result-and-not-feel-like-writing-a-review. LOL.

    @adigby:disqus
Adam, since you might have a better insight than most of us, why do you think Conte is not playing ADP? In your personal opinion, don’t you think he could have been of use in the last two games? Shouldn’t we start taking more risks to get results instead of being too cautious, like throwing in strikers towards the end of the game?

  • Jiji_pl

i can see the people here so frustrated but let be honest with ourselfs:
    1. We started dreaming about Scudetto too much and now the results like this started to make us upset.
Don’t forget that our main target this season is CL spot and WE WILL GET IT! Apart from this a mentioned before that second legs games will be more than difficult for us – all teams already saw Juve’s power and started to stay at the back and wait for a draws. So, games like this are going to be more and more.
    2. We must at least look at in our own yard and say – Matri-Vuc duo didn’t do anything soon so WHY DIDN’T CONTE DO SOMETHING ELSE UPFRONT? WHY DIDN’T CONTE USE ESTIGARIBIA INSTEAD OF MORE BETTER NOW GIACHERRINI?Where the hell is ADP – this kind of game needs CLASS not physical power and work rate – that’s why Milan took that game with Ibra scores by 2-3 goals against weaker teams and make himself the best!
    3. No matter how bad the result is (last regular games) we don’t have to forget that we are still in the race but also CONTE don’t have to forget that and start thinking in new way and give finally chance as starters for Qualliarella, Elia and АDp because if we fail soon this will be his major mistake.
He start thinking how to attack efficiently the opposite team but not to think how to block their main assets. Yesterday game proved my words – In second half when Esti started attack not to wait BYIABIANI to attack and he made 2 real goal chance and good attack. Like in Napoli game Conte orientated his players first to look around his direct opponent but not to play their best and to force them to make mistakes. This is for me is one of the reason Conte failed a bit for now.
So having in mind that i was also pissed off last night, today i slowly realised that we still need much more to upgrade our team to the final level and the results for now are more than successful for a team built in 4-5 months.I do believe we will finish in top 3 but next year we definitely need players like Suarez,G.Rossi or somebody with killing instict upfront to finish the half chances which we will have more and more. For now I expect to keep the tempo and sooner or later we will succeed.

    • Anonymous

because esti can defend and can be more creative. he is also younger and has much more potential. what i didn’t get was that he played shit in the first half and when he started doing good in the second half he comes off. he missed a chance and provided one for matri. imo giach should have come on for vucinic. we should by benzema. the player is a born finisher and also creative

I did not see the game, and the penalty shouts werent in the highlights. Anyone got a good video of the incidents?

    • http://www.juventiknows.com Marco P.

That’s cuz u didn’t bother to watch ALL the videos. Watch the interviews.

Its true, I normally skip the interviews cos I dont speak Italian, but I see now. Thanks!

    Amazing job Marco. Loved it.

  • Afairall

dfaskjsdlfadslkadsfjk argggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh. There, I said it. So frustrating.

  • Afairall

When we bought Vucinic, did someone from Roma pay him to not score for us? Because honestly his shooting is God awful, no power, no placement, just weak taps at the keeper or miles wide. Uggghhh I miss Quags and ADP starting together

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michał-Janowski/100000522494894 Michał Janowski

I keep wondering… We did beat Milan on their stadium right ? Arsenal got raped… literally. So why can’t we just wipe out Parma ? Another “weak” team has managed to rob us form points, using the same shield-wall tactics. Another thing, is Vucinic really that import, that he must play, form all the Juventini he doesn’t even seem to care whatever his performance will be.

  • guest

our striker is so bad.. especially vucinic.. I am the man who oppose the signing of vucinic.. I can’t understand why we need to sign him.. I really hope we can sign Aguerro.. but too bad he choose money from man.city. and I hope he fail in man city.
I hope next season juve can sign a deadly and clinical striker. not like vucinic or boriello..

    • Anthony

Giovinco would drastically help our situation. But we still need a clinical prima punta. Matri is good, but he needs good service. We need someone with incredible finishing who can score goals with his eyes closed. And someone who can make something out of nothing. If we had a player like Ibrahimovic we’d be 20 points higher in the table right now.

Marco Replace Words With SILENZIO And STAMPA

  • Sharline

My birthday was a little ruined.

I felt a glimmer of hope when Caceres was called up, but then he didn’t have enough time to do anything. And yeah, maybe Gio should come back…I like him, but seeing him play against us makes me unreasonably angry. Can’t overlook that hit on Lichtsteiner.

Anyway, kudos on this review and declaring Silenzio Stampa for a frustrating game.
