The Shoutbox – By Fans. For Fans. (Apr 2nd-8th)

The Shoutbox – By Fans, For Fans is your all-week open Juve-debate, no restrictions, no boundaries. Share what you want, say what you want, and face the diverse music of the global choir of Juventini! We want to hear your thoughts on all things Black & White! The idea behind The Shoutbox is that YOU direct the conversation. So bring it on!

David Trezeguet is pure gold, and I’m starting off this week’s Shoutbox in honor of Quando Gioca Segna Sempre Trezeguet.

Unceremoniously leaving Juventus in 2010 after his contract was released, King David signed a 2-year deal with his wife’s hometown club Hércules, a newly-promoted side in Spain. Despite him scoring 12 goals in 31 matches, Hércules was relegated and Trezeguet moved in September of 2011 to UAE-based club Baniyas SC, an adventure that ended after only two months.

Born in France, Trezeguet was raised in Buenos Aires as a River fan and on 19 December 2011, he signed for his beloved River Plate with a three-year contract. At 34 years of age, King David still has a few things left to say in the world of soccer.

Currently in the Primera B Nacional (Argentine second division), Trezeguet has made 9 appearances for River and scored 7 goals, including a double on Saturday which featured this little gem:

Share your own favorite memories or YouTube videos of Trezeguet in the comments below, and make sure you don’t miss the great INTERVIEW of the man we published here on JuventiKnows.

But The Shoutbox is not solely for Trezeguet, so feel free to comment on any other topic. And remember, RANTING is not only permitted, but highly recommended. Because here at The Shoutbox anything goes, as long you just…

Just read that Matri and Bonucci have extended their contracts until 2017. Fantastic news.

This video of Trezeguet makes me cry every time I see it…

    We miss you David :’(

  • Carsten Sommer Andersen

What is people’s opinion on our current striker situation; are Quagliarella and Matri as good as Trezeguet was, and are reinforcements needed?

I feel that Juventus miss that genuine predator up front who score 15-20 goals per season and I doubt that Matri or Quagliarella can deliver those numbers (they should instead be quality backup).

Juve should therefore invest in a high calibre striker this summer. I personally hope for Cavani (even though that is very unlikely)…

Forwards 12/13: Vucinic, Giovinco (should be resigned), Matri, Quagliarella and Cavani (dream scenario)

    • http://JuventiKNOWS.com TeamGREASE

Quagliarella & Matri are not as good as Trezeguet was, but that’s only because Trezeguet was one of the best predators ever and the list of strikers above him isn’t very long.

Comparing him to Ibrahimovic purely on “goals scored in Italy”, Ibra scored 142 in 283 appearances while Trezeguet scored 138 in 242 appearances. And I’m fairly certain that 99% of those goals were not penalty kicks.

And while people might hate Ibra for his attitude/demeanor/loyalty no one can deny he’s one of the top 3 or top 5 in the world.

Plus Quaglirella and Matri are a different breed of forward than Trezeguet.

Our current duo are forwards that are perhaps more well-rounded and complete players with a few different weapons in their attacking arsenal while Trezeguet only really excelled at finishing (but my goodness, he did it so well).

I really like Matri and think the more he plays the more he will score. I like Quagliarella coming off the bench, but not at the expense of sitting Del  Piero.

That’s the worst part of this whole Borriello soap opera.

My problem is not that he’s been poor and ineffective. My problem is that he creates a five striker rotation with Matri, Vucinic, Quagliarella, & Del Piero.

Adding Borriello to the mix doesn’t add anything. It only wastes time for Matri to grow, or Vucinic to gain confidence, or Quagliarella to regain form, or Del Piero to score.

Multiply that with a formation that sometimes deploys a “utility winger” (Pepe, Esti) instead of 3 forwards, it leaves even less room for a lurury bench, plus further pushes Krasic and Elia down the queue.

I wish I knew what Conte sees in Borriello. Because I just don’t see it.

Borriello is a waste of time.

Cavani would be PERFECT for Conte’s system. “Utility forward” indeed! Imagine Cavani in Pepe’s spot next to Matri and Vucinic?

      *drools*

      • Vittorio

Agreed. It just seems like a no-brainer to all of us that Borriello should never be on Juve. I had a horrible feeling in the week up to the transfer, I both knew it was pointless and that it was still going to happen. Why didn’t we just use a Primavera or take back one of our loans? Anybody is better than Borriello. He’s an Amauri -  a stiker who doesn’t strike.

This is officially a curse of the bad haircuts. Fortunately, we got rid of Motta and Amauri, so our system can respond to the virus. Unfortunately, we still get sick for a bit!

      • Somnath_Sengupta

All good points. I still don’t understand why Conte uses Boriello. He doesn’t even hold up the ball properly.

  • http://JuventiKNOWS.com TeamGREASE

I have so many fond Trezeguet memories (like the Real Madrid near-post-sneak-attack goal, the Serie B Giovinco assit, the self-receive-while-falling-backwards-finish) but the one I think of first is usually the goal against Milan, off the Del Piero bicycle cross:

I miss his big game goals, I miss his big momma in the stands, I miss his big smile.

  • Juventinito

Am I the only one who misses Trezegol’s mom?

    • http://www.juventiknows.com Marco P.

Hahaha it’s true, she was a real classic too! Whenever Trez would score, the TV would cut to the stands section with her mom so we could see her jumping up & down in jubilation. :D

      • Anthony

I remember her throwing money at least a few times lol

  • http://JuventiKNOWS.com TeamGREASE

I miss his song, too. Confession: I still sing it in the shower sometimes. (tmi?)

  • amirnyc

what a player trezegol i miss him . . he’s worth 10 boriellols or iaquintas and at least 5 eta-betas and countless amauris. tons of serie a goals, and unlike ibra i’m sure he bagged less than 20 penalties in all of his career.
    we salute you david!

  • https://profiles.google.com/WPazzurri/about Weston (@wpazzurri)

Trezeguet scored the only goal in the first time I can remember watching a full Juve game and feeling for the team: the 90+th minute volley in the Torinese derby back in ’07. (i had almost definitely watched earlier games but i was 12 at the time, just discovering calcio and i dont remember much) I was shocked and amazed and in love with him at that moment and forever after and this no doubt was a huge step forward in my journey to becoming a full-blooded Juventino.

But its hard to imagine a moment that fully displays the attachment i have to Trezegol better than that time i was watching Hercules highights in an attempt to catch a glimpse of David. The window was tiny and blurred, but when a pair of legs jogged by in the top right corner i realized i still somehow knew they were his by only their gait. Yes, I had watched Trezeguet so much I could identify him by the style in which a barely visible portion of his lower body moved. Call me crazy, and as weird as it sounds, its true.

    Forza Trezeguet! :D

  • Sharline

My favorites are the one vs Inter in 2007-8 when he gets it off an Inter assist (mwahahahahah) and then he trips and rolls beside the net, and of course the header from the ADP bicycle kick. Legendary ADP and Trezegol hug!

Memo to Vucinic: Forget Ibra, this is the guy you should try to be!

  • http://twitter.com/Juventino_22 Abo

the way this website is designed and run makes me want to cry… i’m so proud of your efforts juventinos :) never lose that glimmer of hope, juve taught us always to believe and dream…

    • http://www.juventiknows.com Marco P.

I hope those tears are of joy.. ;)
Thanks for the support! Glad you like the website! :)

  • Sabakku

Ok. first if all, I really hate this guy for what he did to Italy at Euro 2000. I even didn’t know that he’ll joining Juve at the time. So when he pops out, I was just like “what the fuck is he doin here?”, but that’s just it. Started against Milan (that 2-2) and so on, i finally realize that Trez is destined to play for Juventus. And I love that man. I still think his style is strange tho. He will “disappeared”, being out of sight for 10-15 mins and then get back with a goal, just like “Hey whuzzup? Here’s another one”, and then get vanished again. Many of nowadays Juve fans who never get the chance to see Trez play and keep talking about Dzeko, Torres, RVP will realize what is Juve’s big loss when they see Trez.
So sad when he leave. Especially, he leave just like a “regular” player, released on free, without ceremonial. I can’t keep my tears from falling down that day. A lot.

    • Edo

He and Camoranesi deserve something better :’) it’s still hurt when i remember TrezeGoal against Bayern Muenchen (1-0) and then things happen we lost 1-4 :( i still remember his face at that time :(

  • http://www.geekinpractice.com amrush

Perfect positioning man! Look at him backing away after noticing the cross isn’t meant to him!! first thought was why the hell Trezeguet isn’t in the middle of the box!

    and the execution? PRICELESS!!!!

  • Wondermaker

At least he’s happy and getting the love and respect he deserves. Sadly it isn’t where it should be coming from. Can we please stop posting about Trezegol as it is too depressing when we look at Borrielol, Vucinic, Matri and Qaugs. :(

  • Somnath_Sengupta

Regardless of what he achieves in future, I am never ever going to forget Marotta’s treatment of Trezegol.

  • Somnath_Sengupta

Del Piero’s bicycle kick assist to Trezeguet against Milan is one of my most favourite moments in football :) ..also the first goal he scored against Real Madrid in that 3-1 win. Nedved crosses to Del piero who sets up Trezeguet..priceless.

    • Vittorio

We shouldn’t also forget his treatment of Del Piero, should things go the way they’re looking to.

      • http://iltifosi.tumblr.com/ Adam Digby

We should also not pretend to know what goes on & jump to conclusions based on what TuttoSport tells us but am sure that won’t stop the hatred. Would also add that the supposed ‘treatment’ of Del Piero is entirely down to Andrea Agnelli not Beppe Marotta.

Along similar lines is the apparant snub of Pavel Nedved. A laughable notion given he’s a) still heavily involved at the club & b) a personal friend of the President. If he’d been mistreated would either of those things be true? And lets not even discuss Trezeguet’s wish to move to Hercules which was paid for by a club who, according to common ‘wisdom’ cast him aside.

      • Anthony

From what it sounds like, I think Agnelli is the one calling the shots on this. Agnelli was the one who annoucned this was Del Piero’s last contract. Marotta had also said that ‘the president was very clear on this matter’ when asked about Del Piero’s contract. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same with Trez and Camo.

Agnelli might just want to show everyone that he’s in charge and no one else. He’s a young president and might want to show that he’s not a pushover. I don’t agree with forcing out the veterans, but for some reason Conte is not playing Del Piero often anyway. And Trez was always benched as well when he was at Juve. Maybe he just wants to clear up that space on the bench for younger players….even though I think that leadership is priceless.

    • http://twitter.com/MDeScis Michael DeSciscio

That was beautiful thing!  I believe that win helped us clinch the Scudetto that year.  Trez was pure class.

  • Sabakku

I would like Giorgio re-baptized as “King Of Pain”. He tackles those bitches hard and makes other player get kicked out seeing red. Nah, who’s with me? :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=650301731 Raditya Margi

my happiest sad-trezeguet moment would be world cup 2006 final, and my saddest happy-trezeguet moment would of course be the euro 2000…

  • Rocke Linez

Trezeguet is monstrous. I know the man since Monaco knocked MU in UCL 1997/1998 and tasted our might in the next phase.

I take my words back, I think the management should consider to pave a way for Ciro Immobile instead of wasting huge budget on world-class strikers, the kid have shown what he’s made of and it will be a shame if we let such a talented player shine on another team.

  • http://twitter.com/MDeScis Michael DeSciscio

My most memorable Trezeguet moment was in the 2003 Super Coppa against Milan at Giants Stadium.  After Pirlo scored on a penalty at 106′, Trezeguet scored a minute later to tie the game and send it to a shootout.  This moment is most memorable for me because I was at the game.

Great site, I miss Trezeguet, we need a bomber like him for the UCL.

I planned the birth of my son at 17 and my wife agree, lucky he was born on that date by cesarean. and also to my second son, but was not born on that date: D when I saw, heard, number 17 .. My mind is only stucked on Trezeguet .. cant tell it why .. he’s the best striker in the last ten years for juve. I hope there will be a ceremonial game of juve and river for him

  • Robee

I never would’ve predicted this 2 weeks ago… But now the Scudetto race is wide open. I crave for a prize, be it the scudetto or the coppa (combined with direct CL qualification). Conte for president !
